Far From The Madding Crowd … Two stunning interlinked barn conversions, both with VisitEngland 4 Star Gold Awards. Barn Owl Cottage (sleeps 5) and The Barn (sleeps 8) can be linked internally to accommodate 13.
They nestle in 16 acres of hills and woodland on the Somerset/Devon border , adjoining Wimbleball Lake; perfect for exploring the wild beauty of Exmoor, the beautiful North Devon Coast and the Quantock and Blackdown Hills.
Both properties are very high spec, spacious, comfortable and flexible to suit the needs of our guests. For families with young children and infants/babies we provide cots, high chairs, booster seats, stair gates and other child related goodies.
Both properties have large flat screen televisions with Freeview and DVD players (with a good selection of DVDs for children ... and for the grown-ups too), CD players, iPod docks, radio alarms, hairdryers in every bedroom and a good selection of board games and books if you fancy a quiet night or a lazy day. Both properties have central heating, provided by our wood pellet biomass boiler. In addition, The Barn has a large wood burner (with free wood).
The Barn and Barn Owl Cottage each have their own garden, bbq and bbq area (with free charcoal), and there is a badminton court, hot tub and centrally-heated indoor table tennis barn. Our fields abound with sheep and lambs throughout the year, which is always a hit with young children.
If you crave peace and tranquility away from the hustle and bustle of modern life, then this is the perfect spot. Straight out of your front door you can wander undisturbed across our fields, through our woods and around the lake where there are deer, foxes, badgers, otters and a variety of birds of prey. We love it here and it is our joy and our pleasure to share it with you.
If you love activity holidays, too, the far side of Wimbleball Lake has a fantastic activity centre www.outdoorandactive.uk.com offering cycle hire, sailing, canoeing, zorba balls tree surfing, archery and an indoor climbing wall as well as group activities such as raft building and back-to-nature survival craft skills.
... And for Artists and Photographers, we have created an art studio for hire and from which we can offer courses with professional tutors.
STOP PRESS ... Several of our guests have said they would have liked a coffee machine in their kitchen. We agree and we thank them for their feedback. We have now installed 2 Tassimo Coffee machines, one in each cottage (we also splashed out and bought one for ourselves and it is great!). The Tassimo takes T-Discs. We do not provide the T-Discs as there is a huge variety of coffee, Cappuccino, tea and hot chocolate T-Discs available. We know our guests will enjoy these new additions.
STOP PRESS ... The Activity Centre on Wimbleball Lake is now hiring out bikes to visitors who would like to cycle the miles and miles of stunning off-road cycle routes around the lake. The centre started hiring out bikes last year and it proved so popular they have expanded their fleet. A word of advice, though: book well in advance of your stay at Rainsbury House. To see the full range of what is on offer at the centre, visit www.outdoorandactive.uk.com or telephone 01398 371460.
